A Canary Island paradise
Lanzarote is the most easterly of the Canary Islands and is closest to Africa. It has beautiful beaches and volcanic landscapes. The National Park, Timanfaya, is of volcanic origin.
Best times to go to Lanzarote
Known as the island of eternal Spring, Lanzarote has an annual average temperature of 22°. It can be windy in July but generally the climate is mild and dry. Visit at holiday and festival time to experience the local culture. Carnival is in February with processions and festivities. In late August for two weeks the island hosts the Fiesta de San Gines in honour of the island's patron saint with fireworks, music and workshops.
Pre-travel Lanzarote information
Lanzarote time Zone is the same as the UK. Hire a car and discover the island's remote areas and unspoilt villages. Visitors are advised to park in the municipal car park in Arrecife as parking in the centre is limited and that streets are narrow. Enjoy local foods, try mojo and papas arrugadas, potatoes and a tasty sauce. This is usually eaten with fish. Food and drink is generally cheaper than in Britain and eating out can be cheaper than in London. For good value at lunchtime, try the set menu which costs about EUR10 upwards. The Duty Free status means cigarettes, alcohol and perfume are cheaper than in the UK.
