Useful information about the flight from Luton to Lanzarote

When is the best time for a Lanzarote holiday

Lanzarote is located in the Atlantic Ocean and boasts a warm and dry climate all year. The island can be windy however, with winds picking up in the summer months, especially in July. This makes it a perfect destination for water sports such as surfing. Beach holidays are best enjoyed during the rest of the year when the wind is not as strong.

For popular events go in February, when things get lively during the Carnival processions. During two weeks in August, Lanzarote celebrates its patron saint with concerts, fireworks and workshops. Festivities go on for 2 weeks.

Try the local foods while there. These include mojo and papas arrugadas (potatoes and sauce), often served with fish or gofio in its various guises.

How do you prepare for a trip to Lanzarote?

Visas are not required for a trip but as with all travel to the EU make sure passports are valid and that you are covered for health and other eventualities. No vaccines are mandatory, make sure all the usual vaccines are up to date, however.

Book acccommodation or a hire car well in advance if necessary.

What is the best way to travel around Lanzarote?

Hire car is the easiest and best way of getting around the island for those also wanting to see more remote parts and smaller villages that may not be served by the guagua (local buses).

If hiring a car please note that parking in central Arrecife can be difficult and streets are narrow. It is therefore best to park on the municipal car park and then walk into town.

What is the cost of living in Lanzarote?

Food and drink on Lanzarote is generally cheaper than it is in the UK and eating out can be cheaper with the excellent value menu del dia at lunchtime. This is a set menu with drinks offered for around €10 upwards.

Most hotels are to be found in the resorts of Puerto del Carmen, Playa Blanca or Costa Teguise. A hotel room in Arrecife will cost from about € 25 per person per night. Budget accommodation is approx € 22 per night.

Public transport is relatively cheap on the island. Locals call the buses guaguas. Free buses are sometimes available to main tourist attractions from some of the resorts. Taxis are good value, tips re generally not given, so round up the fare when paying.
