Useful information about the flight from Bristol to Lanzarote

Visiting Lanzarote

Lanzarote is one of the Spanish Canary Islands, and the year-round sunshine and long sandy beaches make it popular with holiday makers. There are family-friendly areas, like Costa Teguise and Playa Blanca, gay-friendly resorts such as Puerto del Carmen and sleepy towns like Puerto Calero. The capital, Arrecife, is a cosmopolitan city with shops galore, a castle and a gallery dedicated to local artist César Manrique.

The best time for a Lanzarote holiday

The weather is always warm and sunny in Lanzarote, and it is a popular winter sun destination. It is a little breezy on the island and the wind can get quite strong in July.

In February the island celebrates Carnival with processions, music and parties. For two weeks in late August Lanzarote holds a festival with fireworks, live music and workshops in honour of the island's patron saint called Fiesta de San Gines.

Good-to-know: Lanzarote tips

There is a lot to see on this island and hiring a car is the easiest way to make the most of it. Parking in Arrecife can be tricky and navigating down the narrow streets is hard, so park in the municipal car park and walk from there.

Food and drink are generally cheaper to buy than in the UK. When it comes to eating out, there are great value lunchtime options called Menu del Dia which are priced from EUR 10. Lanzarote has duty-free status so cigarettes, alcohol and perfume are less expensive on the island.

Local information regarding transport and accommodation

Getting from Arrecife airport to the bus station in the city can be done by bus - the 22 and 23 buses take around 20 minutes and cost approximately EUR 1. A taxi fare will be around EUR6. The number 61 bus runs between the airport and Puerto del Carmen for around EUR 1.35, and onto Costa Teguise for roughly EUR 3.15.

Buses are called guaguas in Lanzarote and they are inexpensive to use.  Taxis are good value and a tip is not usually expected, just round up the fare to the next whole Euro.

For the widest choice of hotels, head to Playa Blanca, Costa Teguise or Puerto del Carmen. In Arrecife expect to pay approximately EUR 25 per person a night for a hotel room. Budget accommodation can be found as low as EUR 22 a night.
