There are several festivals throughout the year that might help you decide when to visit. Carnival takes place in February and March. It is celebrated in Puerto de Rosario and Corralejo, among others. Dias de las Islas Canarias is celebrated throughout the island on the 30th of May. There are local celebrations with lots of music. Dia de la Hispanidad is a national holiday on the 12th of October with parades and activities held all over the island.
Fuerteventura is a mix of very remote areas and places that have been developed for tourism. The best way to see the island is by using a rental car. The island is somewhat cheaper than Britain when it comes to going out for a meal or shopping.
The public transport system of buses is run by Tiadhe and is reasonably priced. From the airport, bus 10 will take you to Morro Jable by going through Costa Calma; bus 3 takes approximately 15 minutes to arrive at Puerto del Rosario, the capital of Fuerteventura for 1.20 Euros. A taxi is about 10 Euros to the capital and will take around 10 minutes. Puerto del Rosario to Las Salinas one way is approximately 1.40 Euros. Taxis begin at around 3.20 Euros and 0.50 Euros per km during daytime hours for 3.50 Euros and 0.60 Euros per km for the night time rates. Daytime rates are between 6 am to 10 pm and night time rates are between 10 pm to 6 am.
There are many different kinds of places to stay on the island including hostels and hotels. A hostel will cost you about 15 Euros a night, whereas a 3 star hotel will be approximately 50 Euros a night per person.
