Useful information about the flight from Dublin to Lanzarote

Spanish island in the Atlantic

Lanzarote is a destination that can be enjoyed all through the year. The beautiful beaches, volcanoes and mountains, numerous restaurants, and museums make the island a favourite for travellers.

When to visit and events

Lanzarote benefits from a mild, dry climate all year, which means it can be visited in any season. It can get quite windy though, especially in July. Several holidays and celebrations are observed, starting with the carnival in February, with its processions and festivities. In late August, the Fiesta de San Gines celebrates the patron saint of the island during two weeks, when locals and visitors can enjoy some fireworks, music, workshops and more.

Things to know about Lanzarote

Hiring a car is a great way to explore the more remote parts and villages on the island. However, parking spaces in central Arrecife are limited and the streets are narrow, which makes it difficult to drive around. The best thing to do is to leave the vehicle at the municipal car park and walk to the town centre. Costs in Lanzarote are generally cheaper than in the UK, especially for food and drinks. Eating out is usually less expensive, and enjoying local specialities like mojo and papas arrugadas (potatoes and sauce), served with fish, is a must. For lunch, the "menu del dia" is a good value set menu, at about EUR10. Also, duty free cigarettes, perfume, and alcohol are cheaper. The time is the same as in the UK (WET/WEST).

Arrecife transport and accommodation

From the airport, buses 22 and 23 go to Arrecife bus station in around 20 minutes and the ride costs about EUR 1. Taxis charge around EUR 6. Also, bus 61 travels from the airport to the Puerto del Carmen and Playa Blanca resorts, with tickets costing respectively approx. EUR 1.35 and ca. EUR 3.15. When it comes to accommodation, most hotels are located in the resorts, whether it is Puerto del Carmen, Playa Blanca, or Costa Teguise. A night in a hotel room in Arrecife costs around EUR 25 and budget accommodation is about EUR 22 per person per night. Public transport in Lanzarote is quite cheap, with buses called "guaguas". Also, free shuttles are available from the resorts to the attractions. Taxis are good value as well and travellers should round up the fare, as tipping is not customary.
