Tips and tricks to help you find cheap flights from East Midlands to Lanzarote
Useful information about the flight from East Midlands to Lanzarote
Lanzarote - Canary Islands
Arrecife is the capital city of Lanzarote and the airport of arrival for those visiting Lanzarote. It's a vibrant, picturesque port with an abundance of history and culture going back to the fifteenth century and many designer boutiques.
When is the best time to travel to Lanzarote?
Lanzarote has a year round mild, dry climate, but can be windy with the wind picking up in July. If you like visiting at festival time, the colourful carnival takes place in February, with processions, festivities, competitions, bonfires and burying a sardine.
During the second half of August the island hosts the Fiesta de San Gines honouring Lanzarote's patron saint with fireworks, music, workshops, cultural and sporting events.
Tips before travelling
The best way of seeing Lanzarote's more remote parts is hiring a car. Be aware that it can be difficult to find a space to park in central Arrecife due to narrow streets and limited parking spaces, so the easiest option is to park in the municipal car park and walk into the town.
Local foods include papas arrugadas in mojo (salted potatoes in sauce with garlic), usually eaten with seafood. Food and drink is generally less expensive than in the UK. Eating out can be cheaper than in London. You can get a good value lunchtime menu del dia (set menu of the day) starting from about 10 EUR. As Lanzarote has a Duty Free status cigarettes, alcohol and perfume are all less expensive than in the UK.
Lanzarote's time zone is Western European Time and thus, the same as the UK.
Arrecife local information
Bus 61 runs from Lanzarote Airport to the Puerto del Carmen and Playa Blanca resorts at about 1.50 EUR and 3.20 EUR respectively. With a journey of about 20 minutes Buses 22 and 23 run between Arrecife Bus station and the airport. A single fare is only roughly 1 EUR. The taxi fare from the airport to the centre is around 6 EUR.
Most hotels are in the Puerto del Carmen, Costa Teguise and Playa Blanca resorts. A hotel in Arrecife can be reserved from about 25 EUR per person per night. You can find budget accommodation at around 22 EUR per night per person.
For getting around, public transport is quite cheap on Lanzarote. Buses are called guaguas (pronounced wah-wah). From some resorts you often find free buses to certain attractions. Taxis are also good value and you round up the fare because it isn't customary to give a tip.
