Flights from East Midlands to Alicante: Plenty of Sun All Year Round

Alicante offers a wealth of tourist attractions centred around the famous beaches.

Best weather and festivities

Alicante's weather makes it an inviting destination all year round with mild winters and hot summers. Although very hot, the peak season is generally in July and August. Alicante marks the start of summer with the St. John's festivities from June 20th till 24th. The celebration features fireworks and paper mache monuments which are burned on June 24th. The Moors and Christians Festival reenacts the battles that took place between Christians and Arabs back in the 12th century and occurs yearly April 21st-24th.

About the Alicante area

Alicante's beaches are a huge draw and the most popular beaches are often crowded. Fortunately, less crowded beaches are available if you're willing to travel just a little way out of town. The cost of living in the city is noticeably lower, approximately 30% lower than in London with restaurant prices generally even around 45% cheaper. A local dish known as Paella is a regional favourite and common throughout Alicante.

Alicante Airport: transfer to your accommodation and other local facts

An airport bus is available that goes to central Alicante and costs roughly 3.80 euros. The ride takes about 20 minutes and bus shuttles depart three times per hour at 20 minute intervals. Other local buses travelling from the airport to Alicante and the nearby areas of Benidorm, Torrevieja and Murcia depart from the terminal's departure building. For those that would rather take a taxi, the cost ranges from around EUR25. While the taxis are generally cheaper than London, they are rarely faster than public transportation. Once in central Alicante, the best way to explore this small area is on foot. Accommodation prices range from hotels around 40EUR to shared hostel rooms running for about 15EUR. Alicante is known for its reliable bus network. A public use tram also serves important destinations within Alicante and along the Costa Blanca. You can purchase single tickets or a 10 journey rechargeable card for longer stays. For a different experience, travel to Tabarca Island which is car free and surrounded by a nature reserve.
