A desirable destination

Palma de Mallorca is the island's capital city. It is lively and overlooks the beautiful Mediterranean sea. There is interesting architecture and lively clubs and restaurants. Palma has delightful weather, many gold and white sand beaches and a warm sea. A walled city, a former Moorish casbah,  Palma's Old Town is a delight to explore with its narrow streets and treasure-trove, souvenir shops


Mallorca at its best, top attractions and handy tips

This is a year round destination. Summer months are hot and winter can be cold with snow. The bathing season starts in May. Enjoy holidays and the many festivals. The night of fire, "Nit de Foc" is celebrated on the 23rd and  24th June, the night before St. John's Day (24th June). This day is celebrated with music and fireworks. During March and April there there are Semana Santa, Easter celebrations with processions. On the 19-20 January,  Festa de Sant Sebastiá, Palma de Mallorca's patron saint is celebrated with a music festival. Enjoy exhibitions, fire runs, concerts, fireworks and street food.


Important information before travelling

Palma de Mallorca is an hour forward compared to the United Kingdom. The cost of living is cheaper than in London. Eating out is less expensive than London.  Spanish and Catalan are spoken but many people there speak English as well. 


Airport transport option, hotels and public transport

Palma de Mallorca Airport is also known as Majorca Airport or Palma Airport. It is close to the city centre, a distance of 9 km away. A taxi into central Palma will cost approximately 30EUR. Bus 1 travels to Palma city every 15 minutes and costs about 10% less than the cost of a taxi.  Car hire is also widely available at the airport.
Palma city and the surrounding areas have a wide range of hotels. There are expensive hotels but the average price of a hotel is from 50EUR per person per night. Hostels or b&b's cost about 20EUR per person per night. Prices are higher during the peak season from July to September. Palma is a place to walk and stroll and attractions are easily accessed. The public transport system is good. There are buses and a metro system that are cheaper than taxi travel. Use trains and buses that depart from Plaza de Espana, in Palma to explore other parts of the island. Car hire and bike hire is cheap and fun .
