Useful information about the flight from Luton to Gran Canaria Las Palmas

Destination Gran Canaria

Las Palmas de Gran Canaria attracts many visitors every year who want to relax on the island. With its great beaches and sights, the island is always worth a visit.

When is the best time of year for Gran Canaria?

Due to its location, a trip to Las Palmas is worthwhile all year round. Tourists should know, however, that the north of the island of Gran Canaria is typically somewhat cloudier, colder and rainier. For the classic beach visit, the warmer and sunnier regions in the south are more suitable.
Those not just after great weather, but who also want to experience something, should visit the island in February and March. This is the time of carnival on the island and thus the time of parties. Also of interest are the two biggest public holidays in the region. Every year on 30th May, the Día de las Islas Canarias is celebrated. Fiestas and concerts with lots of dancing and music take place on all the islands during this period. The Día de la Hispanidad or Columbus Day on 12th October is celebrated on a similarly grand scale.

What should you note before your trip to Gran Canaria?

Las Palmas and the island of Gran Canaria are best explored with a hire car. You can either hire a car in advance via the Internet or directly on site. Tourists can expect about the same level of prices as in the UK for most things. At the weekly markets, prices for food, cigarettes or alcohol are somewhat lower. Eating out can also be a lot cheaper. Papas arrugadas con mojo are a culinary speciality on the Canary Islands. These are boiled potatoes with green or red sauce. This is usually accompanied by fish.

How do you get from Gran Canaria Airport to other parts of the island?

To get from the airport to Las Palmas city, take bus number 60 for about 3 euros. Other bus lines can also be used to reach other places from the airport. Line 1, for example, takes you to Puerto de Mogan for about 7 euros, and lines 36 and 90 take you to Telde for about 2 euros.

The local bus companies Globalsu and Guaguas are the best means of public transport. Prices start at 1.40 euros. Alternatively, tourists can also use a taxi. Taxi prices are about the same as in the UK. Prices for overnight stays start at around 20 euros per night in a guesthouse or backpacker hostel. In a 3-star hotel, an overnight stay costs about 40 euros.
