Kerala's Kozhikode

Kozhikode is also known as Calicut and is a city based in the state of Kerala on the Malabar Coast of southern India. It is also the third largest city in the whole of Kerala. It is also regarded to be the second largest agglomeration urban centre in Kerala and is located 380 kilometres to the north of the state capital.

In classical antiquity and during the middle ages the town was called  the "City of Spices", this was because of the central role that it played in the sale of spices. Arab merchants are known to have engaged the town in trade as early as the 7th century. The Portuguese explorer Vasco de Gama made entry into the city in 1498 and by doing this he initiated a trade route between Europe and Malabar.

Best time to visit Kozhikode

Visit times are best in the months of December and March. This is because of unpleasant monsoons between June and October.

It is necessary  to acquaint yourself with a few things before visiting India, one is that visitors should dress conservatively when visiting the various religious sights in the place. It is also a sign of great respect which goes well with the locals when you remove your shoes as you visit a person's house or place of worship. The currency for exchange of goods and services here is the Indian rupee. Food and other necessities are comparably cheaper for Western visitors than in their own countries. Most hotels and malls will accept credit cards but it's important to have some loose change in coins and notes so as to pay for fares.
