Useful information about the flight from Riyadh to Delhi

Delhi - beautiful city of contrasts

India's capital is a very modern metropolis which also happens to be one of the oldest cities in the world - some say it has more than 5,000 years of history behind it. Between the historic ruins and artefacts and the busy bars and restaurants, Dehli has something to offer all visitors.

The best time to travel to Delhi - weather and activities

The best time to visit is between February and March, and October and November, when the weather is dry and warm with temperature between 20 and 30 degrees centigrade. In the intervening period, temperatures can reach an uncomfortable 40 degrees and typhoons are common. If you decide to brave the hotter summer weather, Independence Day is celebrated in Delhi on 15th August with a huge, colourful parade.

Before you travel to Delhi - essential preparation

You'll need a visa to travel to Delhi, which can be obtained from the High Commission in London. At the time of applying, you'll need two blank pages in your passport, and it must be valid for at least another 180 days. Several vaccines are recommended before travelling to India, including hepatitis A, typhoid, tetanus and diphtheria. You may also need to show a valid Polio certificate when arriving from some countries, check with the High Commission. Whilst Delhi is a largely safe city, women should exercise caution when travelling alone.

The time difference is 5 and a half hours plus in Winter and 4 and a half in summer, with Delhi being ahead of London. It's important to budget before you travel, but you'll find your money goes further in Delhi, where prices for food and entertainment are much lower than in the UK.

Local info - getting from A to B

It's easy to get from the airport to the centre of the city, as you can take Metro line 2 from 4.40 am right up until 23.30. Otherwise there is a convenient shuttle bus service running to Connaught Place, or you can take a taxi - it's wise to pre-book before you arrive. Once you've checked into your hotel, getting around the city is cheap and convenient, with the large public transport network including a fast and efficient metro, public buses and abundant rickshaws. Should you choose to travel by car, taxis are much cheaper than in the UK.
