When to visit Kozhikode

Being a coastal city, Kozhikode's weather is in general humid and tropical. However, the climate remains mild from December till March, and so it is ideal to plan your trip in this period. From March till May, the weather is quite hot due to the summer. Every year, monsoons visit the city from June until September and October to November. Three Indian festivals namely Dusshera, Diwali and Shivaratri Utsavam are celebrated with great pomp and splendour. Every January, the Malabar Mahotsavam, featuring music, dance and drama, is held at the beach.

Kozhikode travel advice 

The 'British Citizen' passport holders can apply for an e-Tourist visa (eTV) at least four days before the date of arrival. It allows a maximum stay of 30 days in India. It is required that the passport have two blank pages and a validity period of at least 180 days from the day of visa application. While visiting Kerala, vaccines are needed for locally prevalent diseases - cholera, diphtheria, tetanus, hepatitis A, typhoid, polio and perhaps malaria if travelling elsewhere in India. Strictly drink mineral water and avoid tap water. Tourists can feel safe in Kozhikode as the reported crime rate in the city is quite low. The cost of living is only a fraction of that in London. The Calicut International Airport is 28km away from Kozhikode. From the airport, tourists can avail the Airport bus 747 which might charge INR 3-4 or so per kilometre. As for accommodation, it is best to stay close to the beach as the inner parts of the city may be too noisy due to heavy traffic. Budget accommodation starts from Rs.500 while luxury hotel rooms can cost up to Rs.4,200. Kozhikode has a well-developed transport infrastructure. Bus fares are ca. Rs.7 per every 3 km while auto rickshaws charge around Rs.15 per km.
