Venice: The city of romance

Venice is best known for its art galleries, amazing architecture, beautiful waterways and romantic gondola rides.

Best Venice travel season

The best time to visit Venice is from April to October. The winters get very wet and cold here, and flooding sometimes occurs during the colder months.

Festivals are held throughout the year. One of the most popular is Biennale di Venezia, an art exhibition that takes place once every two years. Venice also hosts a carnival each year in February, 10 to 17 days before Ash Wednesday, although specific dates vary. On the 3rd Sunday in July, Venice is treated to the Festa del Redontore, which features processions, fireworks and concerts. In August to September, an international film festival is held for 11 days on Lido Island.

Alcohol is also significantly cheaper here, while food and groceries cost very little in markets.

The Vaporettos water buses provide public services to the city centre. 75 minute tickets cost around 7.50 euros and day passes, which are also valid on buses, cost around 18 euros. You can also purchase 2 day tickets, for about 30 euros and 7 day passes for approximately 60 euros.

Carta Venezia city passes are recommended if staying for 3 days or more.
