Cheap flight

As the name implies, a low cost flight can be booked for a much cheaper price than a conventional air ticket. In Europe and elsewhere, a number of low-cost airlines or low cost carriers have been offering cheap tickets in recent years at noticeably lower prices than tickets of traditional scheduled airlines. Cheap flight tickets are therefore becoming widely available; nevertheless, passengers must be prepared to sacrifice a certain degree of comfort for the lower price of the airfare as the low-cost carriers operate following a “no frills” principle, meaning that as many savings are made as is possible.

During the booking process, check in and boarding, service is kept to a bare minimum and there is only one economy class cabin. Low cost flights may well appear to be cheaper at first sight, there are, however, a number of additional hidden costs such as a baggage fee or sometimes a far lower baggage allowance than apllies to other airlines. On board drinks and snacks will also cost extra and seats usually allow for less legroom. Cheap flights are normally operated on short routes so that passengers are able to do without the extras such as drinks, meals, seat comfort and in-flight entertainment. Another factor affecting the price of air tickets is the airport served. Budget airlines often take off and land at smaller airports, where fees are much lower thus reducing their costs. For passengers, however, transfers from these airports to their final destination may involve further hidden costs and extra travelling time.

A cheap flight is not always necessarily operated by a low-cost airline. Even last-minute flights and discounts for early bookers now come under the heading cheap flights. Scheduled and charter airlines frequently offer different prices for their flight tickets, thereby making it possible to purchase cheap tickets.
