Boarding Pass
A boarding pass or boarding card is required by passengers in order to board a plane. The boarding pass will display important information such as the seat number and flight number. The boarding pass is handed to the passenger at the check-in desk during check-in. In the case of an online check-in, passengers will be able to print out their boarding pass before proceeding to the airport. Increasing numbers of airlines are offering a mobile check-in option and will send the relevant information and boarding pass directly to passengers' mobile phones via MMS, this will then only have to be scanned on arrival at the airport. Until 2008, boarding passes were issued with a magnetic strip which contained all the important data for the luggage to be automatically processed for the flight. Boarding passes now have a barcode enabling passengers to print out their boarding pass from the internet during the online check-in, or in the case of mobile boarding passes to then scan this information in at the airport thus saving costs for the airline and, in the case of the mobile boarding pass, also for passengers.
