Antalya, located in the south of Turkey, is one of Turkey's largest and most attractive cities, along with Istanbul and Ankara. Antalya airport is the gateway to the many beach resorts along the south coast. Antalya was one of the first areas in Turkey to be developed for tourism.

When is the best time of year to visit Antalya

The best time to visit Antalya is between spring and autumn. The 19th May commemorates the founder of modern Turkey, Atatürk and the 29th October is Republic Day. Ramadan is the fasting month of and ends with the Feast of the Sacrifice, these are celebrated in a grand fashion.

What are the entry requirements for Turkey?

British citizens will need a valid British passport to enter Turkey. A visa is needed if staying for longer than 90 days.
There are no compulsory vaccinations – but vaccines against hepatitis A, typhoid, tetanus and diphtheria are recommended.

It is also advisable and expected to haggle at markets so as not to pay too high a price. Cheap food is available in Antalya at Cumhuriyet or Atatürk Caddesi from around 8 TRY.

Cheap travel and accommodation

Overnight stays are comparatively cheap in Antalya. Prices start at around 40 TRY in the old town and around 70 TRY on the beaches of Kundu and Lara. The cheapest means of local transport is the minibus, taxi fares are often much more expensive.
