When is it best to travel to Manchester?

You can travel to Manchester at just about any time of the year and you won't be short of things to do. It's a busy city all year round, with great shopping opportunities and many other attractions to take advantage of. There are however a few events on during the year which may be of interest to you. During January and February you could take part in celebrating the Chinese New Year, this is a massive celebration and all are welcome to participate. There is a superb food and drink festival that takes place during September where you can try many of the world's foods. If books are more your thing, the literature festival in September may be more up your street. There is also a superb Jazz festival at the end of July.

Cost of living in Manchester

Compared to London, Manchester prices are cheaper, but they are much in line with the rest of the United Kingdom. For a big city, the pricing is very fair.

Getting about and finding somewhere to stay  

It is very easy to get from the airport into the centre of Manchester. There is the airport railway which takes 15 minutes and only costs £4.50. The MetroLink will cost the same but take 35 minutes as there are more stops. Taxis are available but are much more expensive.

You can get budget accommodation for as little as £15 per night, but this will be shared. Proper hotel rooms can be acquired for as little as £60 per room.

Getting around on foot is the best way to take in all the sights and saves a lot of money. If you do need transport, there is a free Metroshuttle service which covers most of Manchester centre. You can get a tram day ticket for £5 or there are daily tickets that cover all of the bus services.
