Frankfurt is a city of dramatic contrasts, thanks to the combination of medieval and modern buildings. Visitors enjoy its rich culture, architectural wonders and amusement options. The city is a good place to spend time outdoors. It features popular riverbanks and recreational parks that attract hordes of sunbathers, strollers and picnickers. Frankfurt's south bank is home to upscale restaurants, bars and pubs for an awesome nightlife. The Senckenberg Natural History Museum displays a variety of plants and extinct animals, including dinosaurs and dioramas of animals in their natural habitats. The Frankfurt Zoo houses snakes, alligators, fish, spiders, amphibians and insects.
With year-round major events and a temperate climate, Frankfurt is a destination for all seasons. Late spring to mid-summer is the ideal time to visit; the city enjoys sunny and warm summers with the occasional hot day. The metropolis comes alive in August when it hosts the Rheingau Wine Festival and the Museum Embankment Festival. This is in addition to the Skyscraper Festival, Frankfurt Book Fair, Festival of Stoneware and the Frankfurt Motor Show at different times of the year.
