Best time for Tel Aviv visits

The best time to go for good weather is from April to October. The summers here are hot, whereas winters are mild and wet. The weekly Sabbath takes place from Friday afternoon until Saturday evening and almost everything is shut during this time. For visiting during holiday time, the eight day long Pesach (Passover) commemorating the exodus from Egypt is held in March/April. New Year celebrations with Rosh Hashanah take place in September. Ten days later is Atonement Day (Yom Kippur) in September/October. The eight day Feast of Tabernacles (Sukkoth) is also in September/October. December dates vary for the Festival of Lights.

Tips before going to Tel Aviv

Visas aren't necessary for tourist visits lasting up to 3 months. You should keep the stamped entry card given upon arrival though until you leave the country. Passports should be valid for at least 6 months from the arrival date. Usual vaccinations should be up to date. Hepatitis A is advised. also consider Hepatitis B and Rabies. As prices in markets are usually too high, haggling is customary. Snacks like Middle Eastern falafel fritters cost from about 15 ILS. A meal in a restaurant costs from around 30 ILS, while beer is about 10 ILS.

Tel Aviv local information

At Terminal 3 for about 14 ILS a train from the airport takes about twenty minutes to reach Tel Aviv. A taxi costs around 140 ILS. Egged Bus 5 goes to the El Al crossroads (motorway 40) where you can take the public city bus.

A hostel bed in a shared room starts at around 90 ILS. A single room starts at about 180 ILS.
