Best Dubai travel seasons

Dubai, a city in the United Arab Emirates, is located on the north eastern coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It has an all year sub tropical climate, the perfect holiday destination for sun lovers. The best time to travel is between October and April when temperatures are a little lower at around 25-35 degrees C. During the summer months, don't be surprised to see temperatures hitting 45 degrees Centigrade, even too hot for the locals. A good idea is to plan your trip to Dubai during holidays and festivals. December 2nd is known as National Day. For Islamic holidays, dates vary. One of the most important Islamic festivals Eld marks the end of Ramadan (ninth month of the Islamic calendar).

Before you travel

If you're a British citizen you can apply for a 30 day visa on arrival in Dubai. It's worth pointing out however that you can be fined for overstaying visas, not what you want on holiday. Before travelling check that boosters and your routine vaccinations are up to date, it's better to be safe than sorry. If you intend travelling during Ramadan, eating, drinking and smoking are not permitted during the day. Be careful, there are very strict regulations on drinking alcohol in the UAE. The good news is when it comes to the cost of living, Dubai on the whole is a lot cheaper than London. Expect restaurant prices to be on average around 45% cheaper. European imported goods are, however, more expensive while local electronic items cost less. Many foreigners head for the souks, traditional Arabic market places. Remember to haggle so you get the best possible price. Dubai is at GST, Gulf Standard Time, which is UTC/GMT + 4 and three hours ahead of time in the United Kingdom.

Local information, arrival, accommodation and transport

When arriving at Dubai International Airport there are various transport options to take you to the city centre. Terminals 1 and 2, the red line Metro stops at the airport every ten minutes. The green line stops at the airport's free zone, near terminal 2. Both Metros run Saturday until Thursday between 6am and 11pm, Fridays from 1pm until midnight. Prices are approximately 1 zone = 4AED, 2 zones = 6AED and 3 zones = 8.50AED. The red ticket is the most convenient option for tourists with ten journeys and valid for 90 days. Airport buses stop at all terminals from 6am till 10pm. Bus numbers are 4, 11, 15, 33 and 44. When it comes to Dubai accommodation, budget hostels are available from 100AED. Expect to pay about 800AED for single hotel rooms. It's advisable to book early during peak times from September until May. Cheap public transport usually costs 4AED for a single ticket on the Metro or bus, with a 50% rebate with the red ticket. Taxis are, of course, more expensive than public transport, but nevertheless cheaper than those in the UK.
