Relax and explore Valencia
Valencia, a port city along southeastern Spain's Orange Blossom Coast, is ideal for low key, relaxing vacations. Located near the Mediterranean Sea and the Maestrazgo mountain range, it offers beaches, seaside villages, historical sites and excellent food.
Visit Valencia during any season
February to November in Valencia sees perfect beach weather, however, travelling to the city in the winter is also a good option. Travellers can enjoy the many holidays and festivals. The mid-March Fallas celebration incorporates paper mache monuments and La Ofrenda de Flores, an amazing floral tribute. During June and October the Festiival Internacional de Cine and Mostra de Valencia host international filmmakers. Also confirm October dates for the Dia de Sant Dionis, honouring the patron saint of Valencia.
Enjoy Valencia's culture
Valencia's cost of living is less than London and other parts of the United Kingdom. The Menu del Dia, a three course midday meal including drinks, will cost around 10 euro. Visit Mercado Central or Mercado de Colon to sample Horchata de Chufa, Valencia's favourite drink and delicious Paella Valencia. For dessert, try Fartons, delightful glazed confection. Accommodation is available on any budget. Hostel dorm rooms start at 10 euros, the campsite south of Valencia offers tents starting at 8.50 euros. Rooms at a 3 star hotel are about 50 euros a night and bungalows are around 70 euros.
Getting around town
Valencia has an excellent underground network, Metrovalencia departs from Manises Airport on lines 3 and 5 for about 4 euros and 1 euros rechargeable card. The trains leave about every 10 minutes, the trip to city centre is about 20 minutes. Travelling by Aero-Bus is priced around 2.50 euros, Fernanbus costs around 1.50 euros; using these options will get you to Valencia in 40 minutes or so. Taxis from the airport charge around 15 euros for the 15-20 minute trip, while the basic tariff for getting around the area starts at 4 euro, 1 euro per kilometre. Convenient, affordable public transportation allows children under 10 to travel for free on the metro and buses. A Bonobus 10 journey ticket is a bargain at 8 euros or so. The Bono Travel Card, 10 trips by bus and/or Metro starts at 9 euros or thereabouts. Also consider purchasing Day travelcards (serving EMT and Metro zone A) costing between euro 6.70 and 9.70 euros for 2-3 days sightseeing. Discounted Valencia Tourist Cards, around 15 euros are another option. The adventurous can rent bicycles for between 10 to 15 euros per day.
Airport Valencia VLC
Valencia Airport, also known by the name of Manises, is the second most important airport in the western Spanish Mediterranean region of Alicante after Alicante airport.The airport is particularly busy during the summer months when northern European tourists come to the area to spend their holidays on the Costa del Azahar and Costa Blanca. The airport is managed and operated by AENA, who are also responsible for monitoring Spanish airspace.
