Location
Tel Aviv Airport Ben Gurion is about 20 km or 14 miles south east of the city centre and 50 km (30 miles) from Jerusalem.
History
In 1937, during the British mandate a take off and landing runway measuring 800x100 m and terminal were constructed. After the war the airport was reopened in November 1949 and expanded at the end of 1951 to cover an area of 36000 m². During the 80s a new control tower was erected and communication and radar installation could be improved
A second terminal was officially opened in the 1990s. Only a short while later, the third terminal was built in 1997 and finished in 2004. Due to the addition of the third terminal the passenger numbers increased from 9 million to 16 million passengers a year.
