Why travel to Izmir?
The exciting area served by Izmir airport is situated along Turkey’s Turquoise Coast with beautiful beaches and plenty of nightlife options. The area also boasts some ancient sites and traditional towns and villages as well as hot sprigs in Pamukkale and the nearby Dilek national park. Come here for relaxing days on the beach and a vibrant mix of party and culture. Izmir and the North Aegean is also a good area for a family holiday.
When is the best time to fly to Izmir?
Izmir is best visited in autumn and spring. Besides great weather, spring also offers the traditional European Jazz Festival, which takes place every year in March. The International Festival takes place in June/July.
What to note before your trip to Izmir
A visa is not required for a short holiday in Izmir. British citizens only need to apply for a visa if planning to stay for more than 90 days. No vaccinations are required for the stay, but hepatitis A, typhoid, tetanus and diphtheria are recommended. It is important to note that during the Ramadan fasting period, even as a tourist, you should show consideration for the locals. If possible, you should not drink or eat in public in the daytime during this time. Izmir has very varied and inexpensive food and fast food. Snacks start at 2 TRY, a kebab at 8 TRY and a beer at 6 TRY.
What are Izmir airport transport options?
Izmir airport is served by trains, buses, taxis and it is also possible to hire cars. Transfer from Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport to the centre of Izmir takes about 30 minutes. The Izban train operates at 10 minute intervals. And can be used with a '3-5 Bilet' (ticket) available at the ticket desk. This is valid for a number of train rides.
Public buses also operate to the city of Izmir. There are three bus lines connecting the airport and parts of Izmir: 200, 202 and 204. The journey time is 45 minutes and a ticket will cost around 3 TL.
To get to Kusadasi from Izmir takes around 1 hour 10 Minutes
