Festivals abound July through August, beginning with Bonolu which continues for the entire season. This famous folk festival celebrates Makahali, the goddess of time and liberation, with food, elaborate costumes and music. Next is Ganesh Chaturthi honouring Lord Ganesha with decorated statues, parades and traditional ceremonies. Diwali follows with a joyous spiritual celebration of light over darkness.
Before you travel
Carefully review the visa requirements when you make reservations, British citizens may qualify for an e-Tourist visa. Travelling around
After landing at Rajiv Gandhi Hyderabad International Airport in Shamshabad, air conditioned shuttle buses are available to Hyderabad centre city, a 22 kilometre journey. The buses cost between Rs 100 and 250 for one way tickets. Radio taxis are also an option at about Rs 40 per kilometres, add a 25% surcharge for services in the latter part of the evening. When travelling around the city by taxis and autos, negotiate your fare first, expect to pay a minimum of Rs 20. Bus travel may be somewhat adventurous in Hyderabad, however, it is most economical at around Rs 20.
