Tips and tricks to help you find cheap flights from London Heathrow to Nairobi
Useful information about the flight from London Heathrow to Nairobi
Modern capital city of Kenya
Nairobi, the capital of Kenya, is a stunning city situated on a plateau. It is most famous as having the world’s only National Park within a city.
Best time to travel - Climate, holidays and festivals
The best time to travel to Nairobi is during the dry seasons, which is from December to March, and June until October. Other months tend to be quite rainy. Annual holidays and festivals in Nairobi include Jamhuri (Independence Day) on 12th December, and Kenya Fashion Week in June. In August, the city is host to Kenya Music Festival. On the 20th October, Heroes Day (Mashujaa Day) is celebrated.
Before you travel - Visa, vaccinations, safety and cost of living
A passport with a validity of at least 6 months from the date of entry into Kenya is a must. There should be at least two blank pages in the passport. In addition, travellers from the UK are required to be in possession of a visa, which may be obtained from the airport or online from evisas. It is a good idea to ensure that vaccinations, such as tetanus, diptheria and polio, are up to date. It is advised to get vaccinated against rabies, yellow fever, and meningitis. Crime rates are high in Nairobi, and tourists should avoid Pangani, Eastleigh, and slum areas. For personal health, avoid drinking tap water. Peel or boil any fruits and vegetables prior to eating. Be sure to apply mosquito repellent to the skin, and use a mosquito net. The cost of living in Nairobi is significantly less than in London. For example, a meal at an inexpensive restaurant costs about £2.54, public transport fares are approximately 32 pence, and a mid-range bottle of wine costs around £4.75.
Local information - transport and accommodation
Nairobi airport (also known as Jomo Kenyatta International Airport) is situated approximately 15 kilometres from the business district. A taxi from the airport to the city centre takes about 30 minutes. It is recommended that a fare is agreed on before getting into the vehicle – it should cost approximately 1,500 Kes. Bus route 34 provides services between Ambassador Hotel and the airport, and costs about 50 Kes. Accommodation in Nairobi is available from about £27 per night for a comfy 1.5 star hotel room.
