Valencia is a bright and busy city that delights tourists from all over the world. Outstanding architecture, endless shops, lavish cafes and stunning scenery will please all kinds of traveller.
Valencia climate and celebrations
Valencia has a Mediterranean climate so February to November has good weather all round leading to many tourists coming for beach holidays in late spring, summer and early autumn. Valencia is also suitable for a city holiday in winter. Fallas is on 15th-19th March - this is a festival celebrating St Joseph, papier-maché models are burned on the last day and the L'Ofrena de flors sees the Virgin Mary statue covered in flowers. In June they have an International Film Festival and in October there is a Valencia film festival. The 9th October is the Día de Sant Dionís, which celebrates the patron saint of Valencia with traditional marzipan fruit.

The Mercado Central and Mercado de Colón are popular market halls. The Paella Valenciana will give you a taste of the local food like the Horchata de Chufa drink and Fartons, which is a cake made with yeast. Valencia is cheaper than the UK and a lot cheaper than London, a Menu del Dia (3 courses and a drink) for instance is around EUR10.
Getting around Valencia
If travelling from the airport to the city centre you can get the Metrovalencia underground - lines 3 or 5 take passengers from the airport for around EUR4 and a rechargeable card will cost you EUR1, they leave every 10 minutes or so and it only takes 20 minutes to get to the city.
You can also get the Aero-Bus for around EUR2.50 or the Fernanbus for about EUR1.50 and both these take 40 minutes. There's also the option of a taxi which costs around EUR15 and takes about 15-20 minutes.
When considering accommodation, a hostel dorm will cost around EUR10 a night, a 3 star hotel around EUR50 a night, a bungalow EUR70 or you can camp in a tent to the south from around EUR8.50. Children under 10 travel free on the metro and buses. A single bus ticket costs around $1.50, 10 journeys around EUR8 or get a Bono Travel Card for bus and metro for around EUR9 A Day travelcard for the EMT and Metro zone A costs around EUR4 for 1 day, EUR6.70 for 2 days and EUR9.70 for 3 days and a Valencia Tourist Card costs from EUR15. Taxis have a basic start price of around EUR4 p/km. You can also explore the small city centre renting a bike for around EUR10-15 per day, remember the Valenbisi-bikes are only for residents.
