The most convenient mode of transport for getting to the mountains is by hire car. Geneva has a distinct cuisine, and there are many local specialities such as the Longeole sausage. The cost of living in Geneva tends to be quite high. Expect to pay at least 20 CHF for a meal out at a restaurant and approximately 7.50 CHF for a beer. French is the main language spoken in Geneva; however, many locals also speak German and Italian.

Transport and accommodation in Geneva

Free public transport is available from the Aéroport International de Genève to the city centre. A ticket can be obtained from the machines by the luggage reclaim area, and this must be used within 80 minutes. It takes around 7 minutes to travel from the airport to the main station via train, and about 30 minutes by Bus Line 5 and Trolley Bus Line 10.
