Bodrum – holiday resorts with a lot of local flair

The small town of Bodrum with pretty white houses is located on the Turkish Aegean coast in the foothills of the Taurus Mountains. Numerous bars, restaurants and stores invite you to happy hours and shopping. In the harbour visitors will see hand-built sailing ships that can be rented for cruising. Wonderful sandy beaches in the surrounding area guarantee unforgettable hours at the mostly dark blue sea.

Bodrum: when is the best time to visit?

The area around Bodrum area enjoys many hours of sunshine all year round. In July and August it can be quite hot, with temperatures well over 30 °C. In winter it rains more often and it can be a bit too chilly for a beach holiday.

Culture lovers can enjoy several festivals: the "International Bodrum Dance Festival" (May), the international ballet festival and "Gümüslük Festival" (classical music) in August are just some of them. In October the sailing regatta "Bodrum International Yacht Cup" takes place.

 

How do you prepare for a holiday in Bodrum?

British visitors can enter the country for up to 90 days with their passport and do not need to apply for a visa if staying for a short holiday. Vaccinations are not required. When buying souvenirs or even collecting shells on the beach, it should be remembered that the export of "cultural and natural goods" is punishable.

About the local costs: in restaurant you can get a cheap meal for 15-20 TRY, soft drinks for about 3.50 TRY and a beer for about 8 TRY. It is expected that you haggle at bazaars.
