Useful information about the flight from Edinburgh to Krakow

Visit Poland's most historic city

Krakow is frequently lauded as the most historic and atmospheric city in Poland. It is not hard to see why, when you consider the town's magnificent castle, its beautiful Old Jewish Town and the elegant buildings.

Avoid the cold snaps when you visit Krakow

Winters in Krakow can be very cold, so many travellers agree that avoiding the winter months is a good idea. Summers here tend to be humid and temperatures can rise to around 30°C. There is a lot going on during the spring and summer, including the Krakow Film Festival in May/June and the Jewish Culture Festival in July. Come in the autumn and you can enjoy the electronic music festival, Unsound, which takes place each October.

Preparations to make before you travel

If intending to drive in Poland bear in mind that parking spaces can be hard to find in the city centre of Krakow. Poland as a whole is cheaper than the UK, and a meal in a cheap restaurant will set you back just 35 zloty. A hostel will be not much more than that: between 40 and 50 zloty per night. If you want to stay in an upmarket hotel in Krakow, though, be prepared to pay around 250 zloty per person per night.

Getting around in the city

Bearing in mind the lack of parking spaces, you may well be relieved to know that Krakow has a good public transport system. In order to get to the centre of town from the airport, just take the inexpensive 208 or 292 bus services: the journey from the airport into town is just 12 km. You can also take the train or take advantage of the privately operated airport bus service which regularly departs the airport. Private taxis are also available to hire when you step out of the airport. Compared to the approximately 4 PLN bus ride, however, a taxi journey is by far the more expensive option, setting you back around 90 PLN. Once in the city, bus, tram and taxi services will take you where you need to go. Krakow is a very small town, though, so you can walk to the main sights (watch out for icy roads during winter!).
