      The Island of Eternal Spring

      Tenerife is one of the most popular travel destinations in the Canary Islands. With its moderate climate it attracts people of all ages for surfing, hiking and relaxation. Depending on what you are looking for on your holiday will depend on the time of year that's perfect for you to visit the island.


      When to arrive

      Tenerife is a spectacular destination during any time of the year. The island has slightly different climates in north and south. The north side is wetter and cooler than the south side of the island. The ideal travel time is between January and April when the prices of accommodation are at their peak and the cost of flights drop. September, when hotel prices are lower and the weather is more reliable, is also a good month to arrive. 

      If you want a party atmosphere then one of the festivals is the ideal time for you to visit Tenerife. During February and March is Carneval. Carneval is held in Puerto de la Cruz as well as Santa Cruz. The 30th of May is Dias de las Islas Canarias, which is celebrated with many island parties including dancing, festivals and music. Dia de la Hispanidad is held on the 12th of October, and is celebrated with parades and local events throughout the island. These are all excellent times to go and have fun in Tenerife.


      Things to know before you get there

      The Canary Islands have lower prices in restaurants and for food than those in Britain. The north side of Tenerife is where you want to go for excellent surfing and amazing hikes with spectacular views. The south side of the island holds the major resorts, Playa de las Americas and Los Cristianos. This is where all the action is. The west coast is the quiet part of the island.


      Important local information

      Travelling in Tenerife is quite simple. Just get a taxi or catch the bus. To get from Tenerife South Airport use the buses 343, 350 or 111. These go to Costa Adeje and Los Cristianos which takes about 15 minutes and costs approximately 3 Euros. A taxi will take around 15 minutes and cost approximately 15 Euros to 20 Euros. If you would like to visit Santa Cruz by bus then it takes about an hour and it will be around 9 Euros. While a taxi takes approximately 45 minutes and will be about 50 Euros.

      If you are travelling locally, Titsa runs buses. The cost starts at approximately 1.50 Euros for a single ticket. A minimum taxi fare will cost you about 5 Euros for 3 kilometres and 1 Euro for each extra kilometre you take. 

      Staying in Tenerife at a hostel is approximately 20 Euros per night. Hotels with a 3 star rating will be about 35 Euros per person for each night you stay.
