The Best Time to Visit Manila

Manila enjoys a warm tropical climate all year long, but the best time to visit is from November to April. Typhoons are likely during the rainy season from June through October. Since, the Philippines are a Catholic country,the most important holidays are the same as those in Europe - Easter and Christmas. January the 9th marks the Feast of the Black Nazarine (Cristo Negro). Additionally, many hundreds of local festivals are held for patron saints on the islands.

To Know Before You Visit

British passport holders do not need a visa for visits of 30 days or less. Passports should be valid for a minimum of 6 months from the date of entering the country. 

There is a risk of cholera, hepatitis A, rabies, tetanus, typhoid and diphtheria when travelling to Manila. Always carry some form of ID with you in Manila, such as a passport photocopy. Be aware, as well, that flash floods and landslides can occur during the rainy season. Visitors should avoid drinking tap water and also use bottled water for brushing teeth. Avoid infections by peeling or cooking all fruit and vegetables before eating.  

The cost of living in the Philippines is much lower than in the UK. For example, meals in restaurants cost around half the price. The time zone PHT is eight hours ahead of UTC/GMT; and is seven hours ahead of the UK in summer and eight hours in winter. There is no daylight saving time in Manila.


A Little Information About Manila 

A bus shuttle service is available from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. from terminal 3 of Manila Airport to Baclaran LRT station (Line 1), and scheduled bus service between terminals 1 and 2 and the city centre. Taxis and jeepneys (minibuses) are also available at the airport. Public transport in buses, metro and jeepneys is cheap in Manila, with tickets costing about 22 pesos (about 30p). When hiring taxis you can haggle and agree on the price before the journey. 

Very basic budget hostel accommodation can be found for as little as about 500 Philippine Pesos. Luxury hotels are cheaper than in the West. The local cuisine is a diverse mix that reflects the country's history - influenced by Spanish, Chinese, Japanese and American dishes.
