Zurich travel tips
Zurich: a city with something to suit everyone
Zurich has something to offer every kind of traveller. Culture lovers can enjoy the masterpieces of the Swiss National Museum, for example, whilst lovers of natural beauty just need to head down to Lake Zurich to experience one of the most beautiful sights of their life. Intrepid adventurers can also climb the Üetliberg mountain.
Why not time your visit to coincide with one of Zurich's festivals?
Zurich is great all year round (though if you are planning any mountaineering, it is essential to check the conditions before you begin your hike). The best months to visit are June, July and August, as summers here can be nice and hot, whilst winters can be cold and foggy.
Zurich events
There are plenty of festivals in this city to keep you occupied at any time of year, though. In April, for example, you can experience the 'Sechseläuten' festival, which is a traditional celebration dating back to medieval times. By contrast, every August Zurich plays host to a techno music festival.
Preparing to visit Zurich
It is worth remembering that the cost of living in Zurich is generally between 20 and 40 percent higher than the cost of living in London. So make sure that you have enough funds for your stay. As a guide, a cheap meal in a restaurant here will cost you around 25 Fr.
Know your way around Zurich
Zurich is a great city to navigate for visitors as the residents are very multilingual. Most people that you meet here will speak French and German as well as English. It is good to know a little about transport to the city before your flight for Zurich departs. From the airport, you can get a train to the city centre for 6.60 Fr. The train departs from level -2 of the airport. Or, using the same ticket, you can get tram 10 from the airport to the city centre (or from the city centre to the airport). This tram journey takes around 40 minutes. Buses to the centre are also available from level 1.
