Rhodes travel tips
Why visit Rhodes?
The island of Rhodes is located in the Aegean Sea and is graced with plenty of archaeological sites as well as the UNESCO World Heritage Site Medieval city of Rhodes. However, first and foremost the island is a beach holiday destinations. The northern part of Rhodes is more developed for tourism and the majority of hotels are to be found here: this is the cradle of all-inclusive tourism.
When is the best time to holiday in Rhodes?
The months between April and October are all well suited for a beach holiday. Most tourists will flood to the island during the summer months – beaches will be packed and accommodation fully booked during July and August. Travelling outside the school holidays will avoid the worst of the crowds for those after a quieter retreat and hotels will also be cheaper during off peak times.
Winters can be cool, wet and windy and many of the restaurants and hotels might well be closed as hosts head back to Athens for the winter months.
How do you get around Rhodes?
Hire car is the best option for exploring the island to see the best of the beaches and villages beyond the trodden path.
Buses are available from the airport and services to Rhodes Town run several times a day taking 50 minutes to get to the city. A one way ticket will cost 2.50 €. The bus stop is 300 m to the left of the door of the arrivals terminal.
Taxis are also widely available at the airport. The dtistance to Rhodes city is around 9 km. Prices start at around 3.60 euros and cost 2 euro per km thereon.
Is Rhodes expensive?
Rhodes is not a particularly expensive holiday destination. A meal in an inexoensive restaurant can be enjoyed for around 12 euros. A local beer cost 3.50 euros or so. Average price for a hotel in the city of Rhodes is costs about £60 per night.
Airport Rhodes RHO
Rhodes Airport - "Diagoras" is the fourth most important airport in Greece by traffic volume. It is in the south east Aegean island. The capital is Rhodes city and is also the seat of the administration of the Dodecanese prefecture. The airport is administered by the Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority, which is also responsible for monitoring Greek aerospace.- URL: Official website

Location
The airport was opened in 1977 and is about 10 miles west of Rhodes City. on the north coast drive towards Paradisi and then follow the signs to the airport. There is a public bus that runs to and from the airport at 60 to 90 minute intervals every day. Departure times are available locally.
