Heraklion airport is the gateway to the island of Crete. The city itself reminds visitors a little of Athens. The city has a very long history and offers many cultural attractions. When is it best to travel to Crete?

What should you note before your flight to Crete?

Crete: accommodation and local public transportation

Transport to and from Heraklion International Airport is available by "KTEL" bus. The trip to the centre of Heraklion takes about 20 minutes and fares depend on the zone. The bus number 78 travels to the bus station A in Heraklion within about 10 minutes. From there buses serve further destinations in the north, e.g. Rethymnon for about 8.30 EUR or to Chania for about 15 EUR. The cab price to central Heraklion from the airport is about 12 EUR. Some hotels also offer a free transfer.
