KLM Royal Dutch Airlines is the oldest airline in the world. In terms of revenue, it is also the largest airline in the world. On 7th September 1919, the aviation pioneer Albert Plesman and Dutch businessmen in Amsterdam founded the airline. In the summer of 2004, KLM merged with Air France and the two renowned companies now form the largest airline in Europe and in terms of air miles, the fourth largest in the world. As part of this merger both shareholders joined the internationally recognised Skyteam alliance in the autumn of the same year. Members of the alliance are: Aeroflot, Aeromexico, Alitalia, Continental Airlines, CzechTourism Airlines, Delta Airlines, Korean Air and the old partner of KLM, Northwest Airlines.

Fleet

Currently (January 2010) the KLM fleet is made up of a total of 113 aircraft which serve almost all big international airports in the world. The Dutch airline owns 10 Airbus A330-200, 7 Boeing 737-300, 9 Boeing 737-400, 6 Boeing 737-700, 21 Boeing 737-800, 5 Boeing 737-900, 26 Boeing 747-400, 15 B777 - 200, 4 Boeing 777-300 and 10 MD-11.
