The balmy shores attract many visitors from the middle of November to the end of May. The average temperature during the winter is about 28° Celsius, which is from November to February. Most travellers avoid the monsoon season, which is between June and the end of October.

There are a variety of holidays throughout the year, if you want to see how another culture celebrates, then this is the ideal time to visit. In February is the Goa Carnival. Ganesha Chaturthi is 10 days long and starts around the end of August, while Diwali starts at the end of October. Christian holidays such as Easter and Christmas are also celebrated.

You will hear Marathi and Hindi spoken in Goa, although the official language is actually Konkani. If you are travelling during a festival, you should make sure that you book your stay well in advance, including your hotel and transportation from the airport. It is difficult to book places last minute during celebrations.

Meals are cheaper in Goa than you would normally see in New Delhi. A restaurant meal is about Rs 400, while a thali starts at Rs 150. In the middle of the day there is a siesta and most shops are closed during siesta time which lasts from approximately 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM. When visiting Panaji most of the shops close at about 8 PM.

When using taxis you should try to negotiate the price in advance unless it is a pre-paid one from outside Goa airport arrivals at the airport. You should also negotiate for autos and motorcycle taxis. Kadamba bus fares begin at Rs 3 for 2 km and Rs 1 for each additional km.

Rooms in Goa vary in price. A luxury room in Goa starts at Rs 4,000 per night for one person, while a basic room starts at Rs 700 per person, per night. More average priced rooms are also available for about Rs 2500 each night, per person. If you are looking for a slower pace in a different culture than this is the place for you. Goa is a spectacular place to go for a holiday and you will not be disappointed with what you find.
