Useful information about the flight from Jeddah to Lahore

Culturally significant Lahore

Lahore is a major cultural and religious centre in Pakistan, with a myriad of buildings and events related to arts and culture, as well as numerous places of worship for different religions. Travellers discovering the capital of Punjab also enjoy a range of architectural styles, inherited from the city's long and rich past.

When to visit the city and seasons

The best period to travel to Lahore is between the months of November and March. Avoid travel between May and September, when the weather is too hot and uncomfortable to enjoy the city. Also, the monsoon season starts in June and lasts until September, making travel and sightseeing much less convenient.

Things to note about Lahore

A visa is required for British passport holders visiting Pakistan, and the passport needs to be valid for at least 6 months at the time of application. There is a high risk of malaria and preventive measures should be taken. Recommended vaccines are Polio, Hepatitis A, Tetanus, Diphtheria, Typhoid, and Rabies (in certain cases). It is absolutely forbidden to drink alcohol in public here and blasphemy, adultery, as well as drug possession and use are very severely punished. In terms of the cost of living, almost everything is much cheaper in Pakistan than in the UK. Prices range from around 50 PKR for soft drinks and bottled water in supermarkets to about 200 PKR for low price restaurant meals. Traditional Lahore food includes "Nihari" (lamb or beef stew) and "Mithai" (sweets).

Useful information on arrival

After landing at Lahore airport, visitors can take taxis to Gulberg for around 600 PKR, and to the old city for about 800-1,000 PKR. The journey takes approximately 20-30 minutes depending on the final destination. Taking public buses will be cheaper though, with a one way ticket on the B-08 going to the bus station costing about 35 PKR. Some hotels also operate a shuttle service from the airport.

Accommodation options include hostel rooms for around 500 PKR a night and 3-star hotel rooms for ca. 4,500 PKR per night. To travel around the city, buses cost about 18 PKR and the Lahore Metrobus has its own bus track, which makes journeys quicker. Tickets for the latter start at around 20 PKR for single trips. Rechargeable tickets are also available and include a deposit of approximately 130 PKR.
