Hungary uses the Hungarian forint as its currency. Visitors are advised to research the exchange rates and ensure that they have a suitable amount of spending money. Prices for most things are generally cheaper than in Britain. A standard lunch will cost around 1500 HUF or 3GBP. A beer will cost around 300 HUF (about 70 pence). Premium quality restaurant food is also relatively cheap. A great way to explore the city is by bike. The 200E bus route is about 450 HUF (1GBP) for a single ticket and takes about 50 minutes. Taxis are the fastest option and cost about 6500 HUF (about 15 GBP). Hostels in Budapest cost around 2500 HUF per night. 3 star hotels start from around 6000HUF per night per person.
Metro and buses are an easy way to get around the city. Single tickets cost about 450 HUF, with a 10 ticket pack available for 3000 HUF. A day travel pass can also be bought for 1650 HUF or so.
