Hungary uses the Hungarian forint as its currency. Visitors are advised to research the exchange rates and ensure that they have a suitable amount of spending money. Prices for most things are generally cheaper than in Britain. A standard lunch will cost around 1500 HUF or 3GBP. A beer will cost around 300 HUF (about 70 pence). Premium quality restaurant food is also relatively cheap. A great way to explore the city is by bike. There are a few cycle paths in the centre and an afternoon's rental will cost around 1800 HUF (4GBP). Most of the tourist traps are located on Váci Street. A genuine and much cheaper experience is available elsewhere. 


Budapest airport, getting around and accommodation

The express train transfer from Budapest's airport to the central Nyugati Railway Station takes about 25 minutes. It costs around 620 HUF or 1.5GBP for a one way ticket. The 200E bus route is about 450 HUF (1GBP) for a single ticket and takes about 50 minutes. Taxis are the fastest option and cost about 6500 HUF (about 15 GBP). Hostels in Budapest cost around 2500 HUF per night. 3 star hotels start from around 6000HUF per night per person.

Metro and buses are an easy way to get around the city. Single tickets cost about 450 HUF, with a 10 ticket pack available for 3000 HUF. A day travel pass can also be bought for 1650 HUF or so.
