Location
Inaugurated in 1927 by Charles Lindbergh, the airport is about 13 km or 8 miles south of downtown Oakland. It may be reached on the Interstate-Highway 880, at the exit 98th Avenue.

Between the airport and Oakland Jack London Amtrak Rail Station, the AirBART Shuttle operates a regular service. The bus routes 50 and 805 of Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) also serve the route between the airport and Oakland Coliseum Bart Station . All current departure times are available locally.

History
After construction work began in 1927, Oakland airport was inaugurated in September of the same year by Charles Lindbergh.

Boeing Air Transport, a predecessor of United Airlines, began its scheduled flights to Oakland in December 1927, and Trans World Airlines joined in 1932. After the Second World War, in 1946, Western Airlines returned to the airport in Oakland, followed by American Airlines, TWA and PSA.
