Opened in 2005, the airport is about 54 km or 38 miles northwest of Caldera. The airport is easy to reach on the motorway 5 (Ruta Panamericana). For the onward journey please use the taxis and colectivos. There is a also a regular bus service between Caldera and Copiapo which stops at the airport if necessary.
