Location
First in use in 1935, the airport is about 12 km or 8 miles west of downtown Charlotte. The airport is best reached using the US-Highway 29/74, via Interstate I-485 taking exits 9 and 10, or Interstate I-85 at exits 32 and 33 and via Interstate I-77 using exit 9.

Between the airport and the Transit Center (CTC) in downtown Charlotte or the Amtrak Rail Station on N.Tryon Street the CATS - SPRINTER bus number 5 operates a regular service.
