Air Mauritius was established in 1967. when the search was on for an alternative industry to sugar cane. The first flight served the neighbouring island of Rodrigues. Only one year later, the company was already operating its first intercontinental flight via Nairobi to London in cooperation with British Airways. First non stop flights to Europe were operated in 1980 after purchasing B747 and B767 aircraft.
