The New Zealand airline Freedom Air was founded in 1995 in Auckland. The airline, which in the meantime belongs to the highly esteemed international Star Alliance group and is a subsidiary of the national airline Air New Zealand, has specialised on providing flights between New Zealand and Australia. Currently (summer schedule 2007), the airline owns landing rights for the airports of Auckland, Brisbane, Christchurch, Coolangatta, Dunedin, Hamilton, Melbourne, Palmerston, Sydney and Wellington.
