Air Vanuatu was formed on the 17th of December 1987 as a wholly owned company of the government of the Republic of Vanuatu. The airline was created to enhance the nation's prosperity by increasing travel to Vanuatu through the provision of a safe, reliable and professional air service. Air Vanuatu is a member of IATA, (International Air Transport Association). Head office is situated in the capital, Port Vila, with sales offices in Australia and New Zealand, and General Sales Agents in New Caledonia and Fiji. Qantas Airways acts as the General Sales Agent for Air Vanuatu throughout Asia, Europe and North America. Air Vanuatu operates Boeing 737-300 services between Vanuatu and Australia, New Zealand and Fiji. Additionally, Air Vanuatu offers services between Vanuatu and Fiji as well as Vanuatu and New Caledonia on a code-share basis with Air Pacific and Air Calin respectively.
