Split travel tips
Split beach holday
Split is the second largest city in Croatia. The airport is the gateway to the coast and beaches around the charming city of Split. The crystal clear waters offer everything you need for a perfect beach holiday.
When is the best time to visit Split?
Between May and October the weather is perfect for beaches and swimming along the coast. Events are scattered throughout the year: on 7th May, the city's patron saint is honoured during a public holiday. The Croatian national holiday is colourfully celebrated on 25th June. In July and August, "Splitsko ljeto" is celebrated, during which various cultural events take place at the city's open-air theatres. In the second and third week of September, the annual Split International Film Festival is held in the city.
How high are local prices in Split?
In Split, food and drinks cost about the same as in the UK. Prices are lower in towns and villages, and especially regional products such as vegetables or fish can be bought at the regional weekly markets at a very reasonable price. Apart from the multitude of beaches, you can also admire some other attractions and natural beauty in Split and the surrounding area: the world-famous Krka National Park is only about an hour's drive from Split.
How do you get from the airport to other parts of Croatia?
In addition to public transport, you can get to Split city centre relatively inexpensively by shuttle bus or taxi. There are several public transport connections to the city centre and fares are based on zones. Prices depend on how many zones you cross. However, you can get around a lot cheaper by buying a 10-ride card.
Depending on your requirements, finding the right accommodation in Split is easy. From inexpensive backpacker hostels from around 120 HRK per night to 3-star hotels for about 350 HRK per night per person.
