Milan is globally known for its elegance in design, fashion and industry. The visitor will also find it full of history and fun with an abundance of entertainment, superb shopping precincts, cafes and restaurants, and historic places.

Milan is an all year destination: weather and attractions

Milan is an excellent destination for year round travel, although visitors should be prepared for high humidity and temperatures up to 30 degrees in the Summer and possibly snow in winter. Spring and Autumn are very pleasant times for weather but you will need to bring rainwear. The Festival of Culture in early Spring is a week when all the city's Museums and Galleries have free entry. White Night in mid summer carries through to six in the morning with a night full of varied activities.  In Winter the 'Oh Bej Oh Bej' Festival in the Piazza Sant'Ambrogio fills the square with music and market stalls and coincides with the glamorous opening of the La Scala Opera season.

Facts needed before travelling 

'Il Quadrilatero della moda' is the destination for Fashion buying in the city. The cost of living in Milan is very high and eating out in the central city is generally very expensive. Search out suburban cafes and restaurants to get a better meal for a reasonable price. Transport round the city is easy with efficient public transport. Metro lines, tram and bus information in English can be found online. The time zone is GST +1.

Practicalities of transport and accommodation 

There are three airports serving Milan. From Malpensa trasnport is by train from Terminal 1, Level 1 (in 45 min.). buses leave from Terminal 1 or 2 (in 50 min.); or taxis from Terminal 1 & 2 (in 50 min.). From Linate: Bus 73 or X73 or taxi from arrivals, exit 5 (from 40 EUR approximately). This is the city airport close to the city centre. Orio al Serio (Bergamo): train from Bergamo Station (in 1 h.); Autostradale-, Zani Viaggi- or Orio shuttle bus direct from the airport to Milan (1 hr). Or taxi (from about 100EUR). Local transport is best with a 24 hour concession ticket, taxis are often slower and more expensive. There is wide variety of accommodation and Bed and Breakfast style are cheaper than multi-starred Hotels.
