Getting from the airport and around the city

The Aircoach bus offers an express service that departs from the airport every 15 minutes. The journey costs around EUR9 for a single and EUR15 for a return ticket and takes about 30 minutes to central Dublin. This coach also serves Cork, Belfast and places around the country.

The Airlink 747 bus runs between the airport and Dublin Connolly Railway Station and Heuston Railway Station. The cost is approximately EUR6 (one way), or save money by purchasing a return costing roughly EUR10. The Airlink coach is faster than the Aircoach as it travels via the Dublin Port Tunnel.

Dublin is easily accessible on foot but there are plenty of local buses in central Dublin. The public transport network is extensive with buses and trams. A single ticket will cost around EUR2.20. A journey of 1 to 3 stops is priced at about EUR1.50. The Leap card is valid on buses and local city trains and is rechargeable. It costs around EUR10 and can help save 10-18 % on regular fares. Prices for taxi rides are slightly higher than in London with city centre fares being between EUR6 and EUR10.

There is a wide variety of hotels in the city. Some are expensive, but a bed in shared rooms can be had for around EUR12. Bed and breakfast accommodation costs from around EUR45 per person. 3 star hotels on average cost around EUR80 per person per night.

Airport Dublin DUB

Dublin International Airport, often called Aerfort Bhaile Átha Cliath, is the largest and most important airport in Ireland. The airport is the main hub of the Irish airlines Aer Lingus and Ryanair. It is one of the 20 largest airports in Europe and handles millions of passengers a year. A large number of scheduled and charter airlines operate flights from Dublin airport including some well known low-cost carriers such as Flybe and Ryanair which operate cheap flights to airports in Spain such as Malaga, Alicante or Tenerife. One of the most popular routes is from Dublin to London, and the cheapest flights to Dublin from London are operated by Aer Lingus and Ryanair, for example.

Location

Car: Dublin airport was opened on 19th January 1940 and is about 6 miles north of the city centre, near the district Swords. Passengers arriving by car please take the M1. Follow the M1 to the exit signs for the airport and then follow the signs to the car parks. From Dublin, the airport can also be reached on the R132 and from Dundalk or Drogheda via the R127/132.

Train: Rail passengers should take trains to Dublin Connolly Railway Station (ir. Stásiún Ui Chonghaile) or Heuston Railway Station and then use the Airlink airport bus 747 or 748 that leaves at 10 to 20 minute intervals. The journey takes about 35 minutes.

Bus and coach: From Dublin city centre the public bus numbers 16a, 41, 41b, 46x, 58x, 102 and 746 as well as the coach companies Aircoach, Flybus and Urbus also serve the airport.

Taxi: taxis are available in front of both Terminal 1 and 2.

Car hire: there are several car rental companies at Dublin airport including Hertz, Budget and Avis. Local car hire companies at the airport are Thrifty car rental or Dan Dooley, for instance.
