Best Belfast seasons

The climate in Belfast is mild and wet for most of the year. The best time to go is between April and September. Try and plan your trip to coincide with the city's many holidays and festivals like Féile an Earraigh, the Spring Festival with traditional Irish and Celtic music. The Belfast Film Festival is held in April while August sees the Féile an Phobail, a celebration of traditional, world and Indie music, great fun for all the family. There's also the Asian Festival, Belfast Mela in August. In October enjoy the Belfast Festival for world music, dance, jazz, comedy and exhibitions.

The cost of living in Belfast City is cheap compared to London and many other large cities in the UK. Basic meals cost around £4.50 while local beers average about £3.00 for a pint.

Local Belfast transport

For transport from the airport to the city centre, take trains from Sydenham Railway Station to Belfast Central. There is also a free shuttle from the airport terminal to the station on request.

When it comes to accommodation hostels are usually the cheapest at about £10.00 in shared rooms. Mid-priced doubles will set you back about £60.00. Central Belfast is quite compact and most sights are within walking distance. A single bus ticket costs approximately £1.50. Metro Day ticket all day travel on buses are around £4.00. Smartlink Travel Card £1.50 plus £10.50 for ten journeys. A one week travel card will cost about £16. Or purchase a Belfast visitor pass available for one, two or three days for travel on buses or trains, including discounts to attractions. Shared taxis, north and west, are only around £1 on set routes. Think about arranging bike share. A three day membership fee for approx £5.00 then free for first 30 minutes. After that it's 50 pence for the first hour and £1 per hour after.
