Useful information about the flight from Newcastle to Alicante
Flight from Newcastle to Alicante: beautiful coastal city
Alicante is a sun-washed Spanish idyll, located right on the shores of the Mediterranean. The combination of mild climate, thriving culture and friendly residents make it a great place to escape to.
When to travel and a few useful tips
Alicante is known for its pleasant climate, which is hospitable to residents and visitors all throughout the year. Since the city sits right by so many beautiful beaches, summer months see the highest number of travellers. Many come just to see the St. John's bonfires, which start around the summer solstice and culminate in firework displays and paper mache sculpture burnings on the 24 of June. Come a few months earlier and you'll enjoy the Moors and Christians Festival, where massive reenactments of famous battles take place.
What to expect
If you do come during the summer months, you may want to avoid crowded beaches by journeying just out of town to more secluded areas. After a sun-soaked day on the sand, many residents recommend eating some delicious paella, a local favourite. The dish contains a mixture of rice, chicken, and seafood, with savoury spices.
Airport transfer, local accommodation and getting around Alicante
Upon arriving, many people take buses into the city. Bus fares into the centre of Alicante amount to about 3.80 Euros. The trip takes 20 minutes, with buses leaving every 20 minutes. Buses also serve Benidorm, Torrevieja, Murcia and other cities along the Costa Blanca. If you prefer a taxi, the rate will be around 25 Euros. Once you're in town, a solid bus network makes it easy to get around. Trams are also a popular choice with visitors, as a ten journey rechargeable card only costs around 10 Euros with the purchase of the card. And, the centre of town is small enough to explore by foot. Locals recommend checking out the Island of Tabarca. There are no cars allowed on Tabarca, which is home to a small walled town and a nature reserve. It's a great place to get away from it all.
