Islamabad is an intriguing destination and visitors can see the Pakistan monument or sample delicious local cuisine.
When to visit Islamabad
The city has five distinct seasons. November to February is winter, March to April is spring, May to June is summer, July to August is Monsoon season and September to October is autumn. July is the wettest month and January is coolest while average temperatures of 38°C make June the hottest time of year. Most people visit in November to April for the milder weather. Tips for travellers
British passport holders require visas for Pakistan and passports need to be valid for at least 6 months after application. Several vaccinations are recommended including Typhoid, Hepatitis A and B and Polio so travellers should see a GP 8 weeks prior to departure. Islamabad is quieter and has a more suburban feel than bustling cities like Rawalpindi. The Gandharan city of Taxila is certain to interest archaeology enthusiasts. What to expect in Islamabad
There is no airport bus service so travellers use shared Suzuki cars. An airport taxi will charge about PKR 400 so it can be cheaper to hail one outside the airport. The airport is extremely busy so it's best to arrive at least 2 hours prior to departure for return flights. Guesthouses and cheap hotels are about PKR 1000 while more luxurious accommodation is about PKR 2200. Local minibuses are a quick, cheap way to get around and monthly travelcards cost approximately PKR 3500. Black and white taxi users should agree the fare before boarding.
